      OCTOBER 2010 ISSUE

          Accomplishments:
          • Wrote stories:
            • Attended and reported on the Miss A&T State University 2009-2010 farewell before this year's queen left for the Annual HBCU Queen Pageant in Atlanta, GA. This article was published in the A&T Register newspaper, however the magazine did not. I learned from this experience that to be published in a magazine a story must have national appeal.
            • MISS A&T FAREWELL STORY(Published: Wednesday, September 22, 2010)
            • Traveled to New York and completed a story on the shopping hot spots there and returned this to the magazine. Being that the target audience for the magazine is woman I thought this would fit nicely into the magazine, it was not published either.
          • Copy edited stories
          • Found a series of photographs that went along with a story in the October Issue that detailed a list of 16 strong business woman leaders
          • Listed as intern within the October issue of the magazine
          • Worked with the publisher, editors, and staff writers of the magazine for advice and to obtain assignments:
            • Sheila Robinson-Founder and Publisher
            • Jackie Krentzman-Executive Editor
            • Kimberly Olson- Managing Editor
            • Tanya Odom-Writer
            • Cathy Krizik-Design Director
          • Completed fact checking for all of the issues in the October issue
          • Brainstormed story ideas.
          • Completed a Diversity Woman Content Log Spreadsheet that detailed all of the issues of Diversity Woman Magazine that listed each article and the writer on the byline.

          Meet Sheila Robinson:
          Diversity Woman Founder and Publisher

          DIVERSITY WOMAN MAGAZINE MISSION:
"Diversity Woman is a bold enterprise, and a necessary one."

          • Diversity Woman prides itself with being the only magazine on the market designed exclusively to help smart, savvy women of all races, cultures, and backgrounds achieve their career and business goals.Contains business focused editorial content that is made for women business leaders, executives, and entrepreneurs of diverse backgrounds, who have unique interests and concerns. Each issue is brimming with insights from women business leaders and other experts who speak from real world experience, offering sage advice, information, and inspiration.

          • Diversity Woman also plays a mentor-ship role. Both the magazine and Web site serve as a forum and membership directory to connect aspiring businesswomen directly with other women in leadership roles.

          • My experience working with Ms. Robinson was a great one. She was very helpful throughout the duration of this internship with giving me assignments and asking other editors and staff writers if they had assignments for me. Also, after having a task to complete they all would answer any questions I had in order to get the job done.

          What I Learned:
          • Before this experience I had no idea how the online magazine process was done and now I know that it takes a lot of hard work however if you are determined and with this strong group effort it is possible to produce something of quality.
          • I learned the importance of accuracy all around from the development of stories, photos, sources, and places used throughout the magazine.
          • If you do not know something that it is best to ask and clarify than to complete the task and get it wrong. This is the time to learn and grow and what better way to do that than asking these editors of an established magazine.

          Career Goals:

          SHORT TERM-
          •  Graduation on December 11, 2010! ! !

          LONG TERM-
          • I plan to follow my journalism career in the public relations realm preferably with a non-profit organization. I feel as though with my print journalism background that I have honed over the past four years this will help me in this industry.

          • This internship has enabled me to reach this goal because it made me more disciplined by keeping me on a deadline and also taught me the importance of fact checking within the field of journalism.

          Closing:
          •  I have learned a lot over the past four years however throughout this internship and this last semester overall I learned a lot about myself.
          • I learned that I can do all things that I put my mind to despite how tough of a challenge it may be.
          • The responsibility I had to exhibit taught me that with a lot of hard work and dedication there will always be a way to make it where I want to be in life.
          • I have not yet been hired however I have applied to a promising paid internship with the Associated Press in their New Bureau in Washington, DC. Also I have applied for jobs with Nightlife PR and HeyDay PR in Washington, DC. I look forward to  their response.
